Her instagram page and blog, @thegreenmum, highlights small and large changes you can make to have a lower impact on our earth and improve your carbon footprint. She will share with us some easy strategies that we can use to make our world a healthier place for our children, starting in our own homes, right now. Go beyond the (awesome) reusable straw!
David Jurasek, Psychotherapist
Over twenty years’ time, psychotherapist David Jusarek created an innovative therapeutic program for kids and parents here in Toronto. His practice has recently evolved into a program which he calls The Martial Arts of Parenting. It is designed to empower parents first, for us to be the ones who are the change we wish to see in our families. Check out his page – you’ll be intrigued and will definitely want to hear his message of kind, brave, compassionate, wise and effective parenting. We can’t wait!
Lianne Phillipson – Sproutright
We welcome Lianne back to SLMG! Liane is a Registered Nutritionist, bestselling author and mom of two girls. She began Sproutright after her first daughter was born, hoping to both learn for herself and support other parents with providing their children with nutritious home-cooked food. Feeding our children a healthy diet can be stressful, and Liane is here to help translate the information that’s out there into reality, in our daily eating habits with our families.

Amanda Jewson – Sleep Help
Amanda is a sleep consultant with a parent-centred approach. She knows that moms (and dads) really feel the consequences of sleep deprivation (don’t we know it!). We need support, reassurance and guidance through the process of helping our little ones learn to sleep independently. Whether you have a little baby, a toddler who wakes up 10 times per night, or a kindergartener who crawls into your bed every morning at 4, bring your questions to Amanda and get your sleep once again!
We are so happy to welcome back Valerie Wood from ERT (Emergency Response Training). Valerie is an annual and extremely popular SLMG speaker who will be here to give us all an interactive and engaging refresher on infant and child CPR. You really can’t see her too many times; every time you’ll be reminded of how to save a life and get a chance to practice your skills.
We are so lucky to have internationally acclaimed parenting expert Alyson Schafer return to our mom community again this year. Always one of our most popular speakers, as she is so entertaining – and she has all the answers. Cranky toddler? Ask her. Can’t get your kids out the door? Ask her. Alyson promotes a firm but friendly “democratic parenting” style and offers practical solutions backed by extensive research in Adlerian psychology. Alyson is the author of three best-selling parenting books (which she’ll bring for you to buy!) Mark this date on your calendar, and get here early to get a good seat!
Jaye Robinson is the City Councillor for our ward and is the Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission. She has a particular interest in traffic congestion and pedestrian safety (helpful around Leaside!), and the protection of trees and green spaces. She will be talking about local issues in our neighbourhood. Bring your concerns (cross walks, stop signs, LRT, safety…) and your questions!
