September 30, 2019 – Andy Elder, Grill Time, Fiona Boylan, COBBS Bread, Graham Linton, Interior Care


After being in the Food and Restaurant business for 30 years, Andy decided to open up Grill Time, a Leaside Staple for the last 10 years. A community minded man, Andy has been showing Leasiders how to have a stress free gathering of friends and family, with good food and a good laugh. 

This year, Andy is joined by Fiona of Cobbs Bread and Graham of Interior care to discuss being a local business in Leaside with a Community Focus. 

Fiona has owned the COBS on Bayview for almost 10 years, so while she lives on the Danforth, having fed the community and employed so many of its high school students over the years, she feels like an honorary Leasider.  

Graham is a partner with Interior Care Limited and celebrating his 40th year in the industry. He has been living in the Leaside community since 2001 and the Interior Care head office and plant has been in the Leaside industrial park since 1986. Graham is a father of 2 and dog father to 1 4 year old Cockapoo.

All attendees to this meeting with be treated to delicious Cobbs Treats thanks to Fiona and a Spot Bottle Kit and Coupon for service thanks to Graham!

October 7, 2018 – Samantha Reynolds, Happy Parents, Happy Children


After losing a full-term baby girl and then welcome a son two years later, Samantha and her husband felt unprepared for the stressors, intense emotions and chaos a baby brings to a relationship. They went from feeling like a loving couple to living like quarreling roommates within months and their relationship was more fragile than ever. After taking the Gottman “Bringing Home Baby Course” her husband and her found the simple tools and get them back to connecting and communicating meaningfully again; something that is easy to forget in our busy lives with children.

Samantha has now taken many elements from the “Bringing Baby Home” course, as well as from the Gottman “Emotion Coaching” course and added some of her own researched information and created the course “Happy Parents, Happy Children, How To Keep Your Friendship While Raising A Young Family”.


Samantha is generously giving away Gottman’s book on emotion coaching for children and also 20% off her October workshop.

October 21, 2019 – Audrey Rastin, Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre


Audrey Rastin is the Director of Prevention Education at Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. She has worked at Boost CYAC for over 20 years designing and delivering trauma-informed, violence prevention programming for children and youth as well as training for adults. A discussion of out-dated prevention messages (stranger danger, good touch/bad touch) and the new information that has replaced them. As well, practical safety tips on how to talk to kids and youth about their bodies, healthy relationships and personal safety.

Nathalie holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management and is a Project Management Professional with over 15 years of experience in Financial Services. Her passion for photography grew steadily and rapidly since the completion of the Digital Photography certificate at George Brown College in 2010.  Her inspiration for family photography continues to grow as she goes through the joys of motherhood with her two kids.

Children, Mindfulness & Mental Health

Ioanna Roumeliotis & Michele Breslin, BreatheGirls


Iouanna & Michelle will be here to teach us about raising children with a healthy and happy mindset. They will offer us techniques to help reduce our children’s stress and anxiety, to manage their emotions, improve their focus and concentration, cultivate compassion and build emotional resilience. They run an afterschool program and summer day camp for girls, which includes mindful meditation, “happiness exercises” and yoga, with an aim to cultivate empathy, self-esteem and a positive attitude. In this time of increased stress and mental health issues arising in our children, these techniques will surely be important to add to our parenting backpack.

Bra-Fitting 101 – Melmira


As mothers, we know the changes that pregnancy brings to our bodies. Our breasts go through so many ‘ups and downs’ during and after pregnancy, and in the years that follow, that we don’t even recognize ourselves after a few years. The women of Melmira know and understand this, and are coming to the rescue! For three generations, Melmira has been supporting our changing bodies, and they are coming to SLMG to impart this wisdom upon us. Melmira carries a huge range of sizes and beautiful styles in their boutique, and Amie will share many of these with us at this meeting.

David Jurasek, Psychotherapist




Over twenty years’ time, psychotherapist David Jusarek created an innovative therapeutic program for kids and parents here in Toronto. His practice has recently evolved into a program which he calls The Martial Arts of Parenting. It is designed to empower parents first, for us to be the ones who are the change we wish to see in our families. Lianne Phillipson – Sproutright


We welcome Lianne back to SLMG! Liane is a Registered Nutritionist, bestselling author and mom of two girls. She began Sproutright after her first daughter was born, hoping to both learn for herself and support other parents with providing their children with nutritious home-cooked food. Feeding our children a healthy diet can be stressful, and Liane is here to help translate the information that’s out there into reality, in our daily eating habits with our families.

Dr. Laura Stec, Chiropractic Care

Dr. Laura is a caring and compassionate practitioner dedicated to optimizing the health and wellness of all her patients. She sees the impact that the daily stressors of our city can have on the body, both mentally and physically, and provides a safe, warm space where patients can come and be heard, feel taken care of and leave feeling well.

Dr. Laura studied psychology and behavioral sciences while completing her Bachelor of Arts from McGill University. She then went on to complete her Doctorate of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Her treatment and techniques include but are not limited to spinal manipulation, joint mobilizations, muscle release techniques, functional integrated acupuncture, SOT (sacral occipital technique), instrument assisted soft-tissue mobilization, activator, kinesio-taping, custom orthotics and exercise prescription.

Dr. Laura enjoys treating a variety of patients from all walks of life. Some of her special interests include: TMJ disorders, pre-natal and post-partum wellness, neck pain and headaches, sports injuries, geriatric care and general wellness.

Adriana Spassova, Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

Adriana Spassova graduated from Queens University where she completed her Masters of Physiotherapy in 2012. She has worked as an Orthopaedic therapist treating a variety of musculoskeletal injuries with the end goal of improving overall health and strength as well as optimizing individual performance.

During her own pregnancy, she saw a Pelvic therapist which sparked an interest to pursue training in pelvic floor physiotherapy.

Adriana has a passion in treating pre and post-natal patients who suffer from pelvic floor dysfunctions. Adriana is committed to providing the highest quality of care to her patients by integrating evidence-based practice with her clinical experience. Her goal is to help women gain back their core strength and regain control over their pelvic floor muscles.

She believes in implementing highly individualized treatment plans and relies on manual therapy, soft tissue release, exercise prescription, and patient education to help her clients achieve their therapeutic goal.

During her spare time Adriana enjoys going to the gym, running, spending quality time with her family and friends and skiing during the winter months!

Amanda Jewson – Sleep Help


Amanda is a sleep consultant with a parent-centred approach. She knows that moms (and dads) really feel the consequences of sleep deprivation (don’t we know it!). We need support, reassurance and guidance through the process of helping our little ones learn to sleep independently. Whether you have a little baby, a toddler who wakes up 10 times per night, or a kindergartener who crawls into your bed every morning at 4, bring your questions to Amanda and get your sleep once again!

Valerie Wood


We are so happy to welcome back Valerie Wood from ERT (Emergency Response Training). Valerie is an annual and extremely popular SLMG speaker who will be here to give us all an interactive and engaging refresher on infant and child CPR. You really can’t see her too many times; every time you’ll be reminded of how to save a life and get a chance to practice your skills.

We are so lucky to have internationally acclaimed parenting expert Alyson Schafer return to our mom community again this year. Always one of our most popular speakers, as she is so entertaining – and she has all the answers. Cranky toddler? Ask her. Can’t get your kids out the door? Ask her. Alyson promotes a firm but friendly “democratic parenting” style and offers practical solutions backed by extensive research in Adlerian psychology. Alyson is the author of three best-selling parenting books (which she’ll bring for you to buy!)  Mark this date on your calendar, and get here early to get a good seat!

Jaye Robinson


Jaye Robinson is the City Councillor for our ward and is the Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission. She has a particular interest in traffic congestion and pedestrian safety (helpful around Leaside!), and the protection of trees and green spaces. She will be talking about local issues in our neighbourhood. Bring your concerns (cross walks, stop signs, LRT, safety…) and your questions!

Joanne Saul/Type Books – Lose Yourself in These Great Reads!


Type Books is a magical independent book store that opened on Queen Street in 2006. Two further locations have since opened in Forest Hill Village and the Junction, offering great titles in fiction and non-fiction for you to escape into. Joanne and her staff have fed the book hunger of many of our SLMG members, year after year. You’ll definitely want to come and listen to her talk passionately about her favourite picks.
